Two female racecar-driving teens are competing to win a NASCAR championship in the male-dominated motorsport. Brady Halbleib has more on their chase for victory.

In tonight’s Weekend Journal, Brady Halbleib of CBS Sacramento shows us how two teenagers are chasing their own dreams for victory on the racetrack.

The roar of engines zooming around the track could be heard for miles at the All American Speedway in Roseville, CA. The drivers and their crews are battling for a NASCAR championship, with two of them racing at top speed to break through the glass ceiling.

“It doesn’t make a lot of men happy when a 14-year-old girl beats them on the track,” Kylie Glick said.

You heard that right—14-year-old Kylie Glick from Lincoln, CA, is leaving the boys in the dust. She’s racing a full-size late model car that is basically like a NASCAR Cup-style car. Kylie does not have a driver’s license, but she has a NASCAR license that allows her to compete. It’s her rookie year on the Junior Late Model stock car circuit, and the first-year driver is dominating the field, defying expectations as she pursues a championship title.

“I think I’ve been doing that a lot this season, and I’m really excited to see what the future holds for me. Hopefully, I can make it to the NASCAR Cup Series and prove a lot of people wrong,” Kylie shared.

Another driver making an impact is 18-year-old Kenna Mitchell from Loomis, CA. At just 18, last month Mitchell became the first female Super Late Model Champion at the All American Speedway. “Kenna Mitchell wins both the Pro and the Super,” announced the track commentator. Just like Kylie Glick, Mitchell is eager to move up in the big leagues—the NASCAR Cup Series.

“NASCAR for sure—that would be super cool to race, especially knowing there’s not a lot of female drivers at the top,” Kenna shared.

Mitchell and Glick compete in different race circuits, but both know they might inspire others. “I hope we can show them love and show them what we have,” said Kylie, aiming to inspire the next generation of female racecar drivers and show them that they have what it takes to win.
